Happy Veteran's Day - my thoughts on this day

It's seems weird to say Happy Veteran's day when I treat it so soberly. It is NOT a holiday I feel should be taken lightly, nor viewed as just another day for banks and post offices close. It's not just another day to put out that flag that the scouts get assigned to do in your neighborhood.

It means a lot to me. More than I could ever compose into something worth reading. But know this - I LOVE me a soldier. Any soldier. Anyone who who ever served, is serving now and will choose to serve in the future. I love every last one of them and appreciate their service and sacrifices. Oftentimes, their sacrifices are overlooked or perhaps not emphasized as much as I feel they should.

JennyMac - is a brilliant writer. Go HERE to read a beautiful tribute. I don't lightly suggest it, I am really pleading for you to go read her post. It will bring a tear to your eye and a warm feeling in your heart and set a nice tone for this day of remembrance.

And then, today, or any day for that matter, when you see a man or woman in uniform, give em a hug, a wink, a thank you, a salute, whatever you feel is appropriate to acknowledge them and their efforts.

PS :
Uncle Ernie - a special thanks to you.
BFC Russ - a special thanks to you.
The entire Larry Litster clan - a special thanks to you
Luke Bess - you are in the Catmull family prayers. May God bless you and keep you safe.

Great post. My dad is a vietnam veteran and my grandpa is a ww2 veteran. We honored our veterans at church Sunday.

Amen! I'm married to a veteran and I'm grateful everyday for his service, and for that of others.

DITTO.
I read that post by Jenny and it is indeed a good story.
Up here it is called Remembrance Day.
Everyone wears a red poppy pined to their shirt/coat - -whatever.
Reminds me of the poem they taught us when in elementary school (a millenia ago)
Between the poppies row by row (but I can't remember it)

I agree and thanks for the link. It makes me so mad when people make light of this day or complain about the war when my sister's husband gave his life, leaving four little ones fatherless, for our country and the freedoms of others.

You are so wonderful. Thank you for your link and awesome words. Its a critically important day and I doubt I would ever be brave enough to do what some people have done to protect this country.
