Slang Gang Word of the Day - Triple Threat

October 13: Facebook crush

A crush on a FB friend is characterized by the unexplainable urge to revisit the friend's Photos tab repeatedly and checking to see if other friends have written new messages on their Wall. Usually afflicts users who are only somewhat acquainted.

"I've got a Facebook crush on a guy I was going to rent a room from, but in the end we just friended each other."

**C'mon, confess.....whose your FB crush?**

October 14: Caraoke

Singing along with music in a car, especially loudly and passionately.

That long road trip felt a lot (shorter/longer) because of the Caraoke.

**I actually prefer to call these ICC's (in car concerts). I am do a mean show!**

October 15: cactus legs

the feeling on a woman's legs as a result of not having shaved.

--Steve is mad at me!
--why?
--cuz last nite, he wanted to touch my legs and i didnt let him
--why?
--cuz, i got cactus legs, i haven't shaved in a week!

**Ladies, ladies, ladies.....there is a simple solution. Incorporate running a razor over your legs as part of your daily shower routine. Trust me. I've RARELY had cactus legs. For reals.**

Tickle me Pink Tuesday - Part II

No explanation necessary.......oh how I love her!

Tickle Me Pink Tuesday - illustrated version......

I'm just feeling so pink today!!

I realize hot pink is not appropriate for this time of the year and season, but who cares! I feel very pinkish, and besides October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and it's ALL about pink. So throw convention out the window, and bring out your PINK!

I am tickled that I saw my orthopod this morning that he was encouraged by my progress and when I expressed how frustrated I was that this was taking so long, he kindly reminded me that while my stress fracture was relatively small, the CRPS complicates it and it will take longer than normal to heal. That made me feel better and a little more justified as to why I still feel pain. I'm a tough girl, but this has made me feel like a wuss. His words made me feel like I wasn't be such a baby, I had a good reason.

I was tickled pink that Splenda and I went to the gym this morning and I did 45 minutes on a bike with no pain! I see progress, I see myself getting back to where I need to be. I got all winter, but I will be running again!!

I was tickled pink when my son C and his friend C brought me dinner and treats last nightMy favorite Subway sandwich and of course the always loved Milk Duds. I forgot to get in the picture the perfect beverage concoction from the Sev.

Thanks kids I loved it and I appreciate it so much!!

Anything particularly tickling you pink today?

Missionary Monday - update

Parents,

Hey mom and dad, how are you guys going? How did this week go for you guys??? All things going good here. As you know we had transfers, and I don’t remember if I told you guys about them very much, but here ya go. I stayed here and was moved up to senior comp and to train another zone leader named Elder Larsen. He is way awesome and hes from Bountiful. We are doing great here. I felt kinda weird cause when elder cuadra left, it was the entire weight of the sector, the zone and the missionaries (our sector, 5 others, 12 misionaries) on my back, but now it is getting a little easier as the days go on. I guess just a lot more work haha. Yeah that’s right, that means that I have only one more transfer until I come home. The next transfers are on the 18 of Nov. and then 31 of Dec. Time is flying by. It kinda hasn’t hit me yet that I am getting ready to go home, but I guess president wants me to realize that I am haha.
We are having some awesome experiences here in the mish and things are just straight up going good!! Nothing new going on, the basically the work work and more work.
Today I am going to be using the card that I got. I know that everything is good to go there, I just haven’t had much time to be able to use it haha.
Things are going good like I said. Me and my comp are doing some crazy blue darts haha and I got some funny videos. Some time this week we are going to see some good views so we should be good to go there!!
Mom I really do hope that you get better. I am praying for you, so I know that you will!!! Sounds like things will be going good back home in a bit. That would be nice if I could get the talk about the starfish??? Thanks for the info on the weather dad, it seriously is good to know. 70 degrees here is lik 85 really with the humidity and the o zone thing. Well I love you guys have a great week!!! I am going to send some pics as you can see!!!!

Elder Catmull

Tuffy,

What is up dude! Sorry I couldn’t get ya an email last week, there was just a crap load of stuff that went on. I think parents will tell you about the transfers and everyrthing, but now I got a comp from the states named elder Larsen. He is tight dude, and things are going great here on the mission. So she is your gf dude? I don’t even know who she is bro, you gotta let me in! how is school and work going?? Anything new going on back home? Dude, I gotta tell you bro, we have been throwing some mad blue darts here hahaha. I got some good pics and videos dude that I wil have to show you when I get home. I hope things are going good back, have a good week!

Elder Catmull

**YES!! Finally some new pictures! And since I have received nothing yet from Church Travel Services, I am left to assume it will be early January that he comes home. But doesn't he look and sound happy? Love it!**

Spiritual Sunday

I belong to this church. And our main meeting on Sunday's is Sacrament meeting, where we not only partake of the sacred sacrament and renew covenants, but we also have speakers who teach gospel principles.
Today was one of the best Sacrament meetings we've had in a long time. Was it because of the speakers? Or because I wasn't battling Sissy? Prolly both. : )

One of Splenda's young men, CR, is leaving for a mission. He'll be serving in Tulsa, OK. This young man has always been a great kid. Kinda quiet, but always helpful and respectful. He was very emotional as he gave his talk and shared his thoughts, which mostly centered on his love and respect for his parents. He will be an awesome missionary if for no other reason than when he speaks, he speaks with his soul. There is no denying how he feels, and it just reaches out to others and they feel it to.

The second speaker was a young man that was/is buddies with my C. While they have chosen different paths, I think they still stay in touch a little bit.
He recently returned from his mission to Louisville, KY. I love how our ward does missionary "farewells". The outgoing missionary speaks first taking as much or as little time as he wants. We then have a a musical number, and finally a recently returned missionary wraps it up. Very cool!

AL is a kid that you can't help but love. His mission was a great thing for him and he testified of that.

He told us of a man he met in his first area. A church member, but a less-active one. They became great friends, but no progress on the gentleman's part of returning to the church and embracing the gospel in his life. AL was transferred out and moved on.

He recently received an email from this man with some family updates and a story. The man had some friendly words to say and then was excited to tell AL that he and his family would be coming in early 2010 to attend the Salt Lake Temple! He had returned to the church, was happily serving and their family was doing great.
He also told AL, how much he had meant to their family and to this him. How his several months of being in the area, and serving him had really made a difference. He then enclosed a copy of this story:

The Starfish

Based on the story by Loren Eisley...
I awoke early, as I often did, just before sunrise to walk by the ocean's edge and greet the new day. As I moved through the misty dawn, I focused on a faint, far away motion. I saw a youth, bending and reaching and flailing arms, dancing on the beach, no doubt in celebration of the perfect day soon to begin.
As I approached, I sadly realized that the youth was not dancing to the bay, but rather bending to sift through the debris left by the night's tide, stopping now and then to pick up a starfish and then standing, to heave it back into the sea. I asked the youth the purpose of the effort. "The tide has washed the starfish onto the beach and they cannot return to the sea by themselves," the youth replied. "When the sun rises, they will die, unless I throw them back to the sea."
As the youth explained, I surveyed the vast expanse of beach, stretching in both directions beyond my sight. Starfish littered the shore in numbers beyond calculation. The hopelessness of the youth's plan became clear to me and I countered, "But there are more starfish on this beach than you can ever save before the sun is up. Surely you cannot expect to make a difference."
The youth paused briefly to consider my words, bent to pick up a starfish and threw it as far as possible. Turning to me he simply said, "I made a difference to that one."

This email had come at a time when AL was struggling a bit. He shared how it felt for him to receive this reminding him that he was important and that he HAD made a difference.

As I sat listening to these two missionaries, (one outgoing, the recently incoming), I, of course, thought of my own Elder L. I wonder what tales he will have to tell when he returns and reports on his mission. Suddenly my heart actually began to ache with the desire to hear him speak. I want to be sitting in a pew, I want him at the pulpit and I want to learn at his feet the lessons he learned. I want to hear his experiences. I want to hear his testimony. I want to hear him speak Spanish, the language that I love. That ache, which was actually physical, almost became too much.

I'll proudly admit that I think I have done fairly well these last ALMOST two years. I've not been one of those missionary moms that blubber every day and carry on and on.
But this morning........my heart yearned for him to be home and speaking of his experiences more than anything else.

Two years is a LONG time. Did you hear me? A.LONG.TIME. I hope that my own son has been a starfish saver. I hope that he has made a difference in someones life there in Chile. I hope he comes home knowing he was called to serve there for a specific reason and that his purpose was fulfilled.

And then I thought, what about me? Am I a starfish saver? I don't have to be formerly called somewhere exotic or far away or even a state or two over, to be a starfish saver. But I certainly cannot expect something of my son, that I am not willing to do myself. Or at least try to do.

So, for this Sunday, that is my goal. To somehow make a difference. I can't save every starfish on the shore, just as the young man in the story couldn't. It's impossible for just one person. But I can take care of one or two of them. And if everyone had the attitude of helping just one or two starfish, think of the massive difference it would make.

Times are precarious. Economics, politics, warfare against the family, they are all waging a tenacious battle. And every single one of us has our own corner of the battlefield that we are fighting on. When we perhaps have a small break in our own fight, can we look around us and see who needs a helping hand? They might need your sword of friendship, or your rifle of righteous obedience. Even just your presence beside them for spell just might do it.

I've rambled enough. It's time for me to don my flak jacket, and flip flops. I'm headed to the beach to see what starfish I can aid in their battles.

How to decorate for Halloween........

if you are a moron what doesn't have a decorating bone in her body (yes I said what).

Otherwise known as, how to decorate ghetto style.

First, start with your front door. You know, the one that badly needs to be painted. Remove your flag art that has been there since July and add something that pertains to the current season:

Next, start in your front room. You know the room that is reserved for visiting/home teachers. The one that only Freakshow spends all day in perched on the once pretty table that he has now scratched beyond repair. Ignore that piece of trash, and find other spots to toss a decoration or two.

You spot your end table. The one that people notice when they walk in the door after battling Freakshow and Jordan:just arrange them nicely around your most favorite picture of all.

Don't forget the mantle. There's one thing or another in your "Halloween" box that can be perched there:

As you turn to leave the room wondering what to do with the last couple of items, don't leave out the front door. There is something on the outside, so OF COURSE there needs to be something on the inside:

Now as you stand there, okay lean there on your one crutch and good leg, you wonder what to do with that last piece of Halloween crap, I mean, decor that you are holding in your hands. Another door? Sure.......how about the door going to the garage? This is the ugliest of all the decorations, so that would be JUST the right spot!:and yes this door needs painting badly too.

Whew! You're done! You have managed to toss a few decorations up to, you know, garner some festive spirit. You can pat yourself on the back for being such a great homemaker. Even better, remind yourself that you, yourself, only purchased about two of the decor items. The rest were won at Bonco. Wow, add that to your awesome repertoire. You know how to win cool stuff at Bonco.

Now that the house is properly decorated. Head outside and remove the pink and blue sand chairs that have been sitting out front for weeks!

**Disclaimer. Every word of this is true. I suck at decorating. If you REALLY want some decorating tips, go see her. She has a button on her side bar with tons of ideas.**

As for me? Did you notice that I threw both Halloween and just general Fall, which can include Thanksgiving in all those beautiful decorations? That means I'm done till Christmas baby!
