I find it hysterical and think we need to start a grass roots movement : )

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.
In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?
Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their lazy butts, doing drugs, while I work. . . .
Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Guess we could title that program, 'Urine or You're Out'."

PSA - A new source of political information

Most everyone already knows my political views. Surprising since I'm very quiet and subdued by nature and don't share much of my thoughts with others.......whatev : )

My BFF cousin sent me this amazing email with some very valuable links. She also guided me to a website to continually get information. I have found with anything, there are things I agree with, and things I don't. I take what is of value to me, and leave the rest for someone else to value.

Times like these are too important for us not to hold government to the highest possible standards.

The House of Representatives is poised to take up debate on a health care bill in the coming weeks that will have a huge impact on each of our lives and our economy. The bad news is that if the last week is any example, it's not clear that we will even know what's in that bill. Indeed, it's not clear if even our representatives will have a chance to read the bill before they vote.

Whatever you think about the "Cap and Trade" bill that was passed by the House last week, or however you feel about health care reform, the process for considering legislation is not as transparent as we need it to be.

I'd bet you'd agree with us: Congress MUST read the bill and ensure that we, the public, have at least 72 hours to do the same.

To be perfectly clear, I'm not here to argue the merits of energy or health care policy. But, I AM demanding that when Congress takes up such far-reaching issues, they MUST have a transparent process that doesn't just include lobbyists and Washington insiders.

The only way our demand is going to be heard is if we mobilize in large enough numbers that Congress can't ignore us. Already, *over 11,000 of you have signed our petition supporting a 72-hour rule, and we need 4,000 more to reach our goal of 15,000 before Congress goes on August recess.

Please join us and ask 3 other concerned friends to do the same. As we saw last week, what is happening in Congress is too important to let them make up their own minds about how they should operate. Unless we demand transparency and accountability, it sure doesn't look like they're going to give it to us.

You know what was most frustrating about the process? It's that for the last ten days our staff tried very hard to understand all that happened through the Cap and Trade bill, but nearly couldn't - which made me think about something else that happened last week.

On Friday, the House paid tribute to Michael Jackson in the middle of the debate on the House Floor. It just strikes me that if they really want to pay tribute, they can take a long look at the "man in the mirror," make a change, get this right, and Read the Bill.

Obama team on wrong foot with Pakistan?

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President Barack Obama has made rooting out extremism from Pakistan a key priority, but experts from both countries warn that his team is off to a shaky start.

Japan on Friday holds a major donors meeting for Pakistan, but Islamabad has already bristled at proposed conditions in the US aid package.

US envoy Richard Holbrooke, who will take part in the Tokyo talks, and Admiral Mike Mullen, the top US military commander, last week visited Islamabad, where they faced a storm of protest over US drone attacks that have killed both wanted militants and civilians.

Pakistani analyst Shuja Nawaz, director of the South Asia Center at the Washington-based Atlantic Council, was not charitable about the Obama team's debut in Islamabad.

"This was probably the worst ever visit by an American team to South Asia in history," Nawaz said. "It was a complete disaster.

"If this is how you are going to win friends, I just wonder how you are going to create enemies," Nawaz told a seminar at The Jamestown Foundation, another think-tank.

Nawaz faulted Holbrooke and Mullen for publicly demanding that Pakistan's civilian President Asif Ali Zardari rein in elements of the intelligence service believed to support extremists.

Obama has thrown his support behind a bill before Congress to pump 1.5 billion dollars annually into Pakistan for at least five years to build schools and infrastructure that can nurture democracy.

With the United States in a painful recession, the Obama administration has made clear to US taxpayers that it would set benchmarks on Pakistan's progress in fighting extremism.

But Nawaz said such conditions made the aid politically untenable for Zardari, widely seen to be in a weak position faced with Pakistan's powerful military and intelligence service.

Ahmed Rashid, a leading Pakistani journalist and Taliban expert, said that the United States would do well to set more general parameters for aid.

He said he was "absolutely shocked" by the conditions in drafts of the US congressional aid bill to his country.

"No political government can accept a bill like this in Pakistan, even if it is on its knees -- which it is, economically speaking," Rashid said.

Obama, announcing his new strategy last month, said that the United States should take a broader regional approach that encompasses both Pakistan and Afghanistan in the fight to eliminate Islamic extremism.

Leading members of the Al-Qaeda movement -- including its leader Osama bin Laden -- are widely believed to be holed up in Pakistan's lawless tribal areas near the Afghanistan border.

Pakistan was the premier supporter of the extremist Taliban regime in Afghanistan, but military ruler Pervez Musharraf switched sides overnight and became a key US ally after the September 11, 2011 attacks.

Marin Strmecki of the Smith Richardson Foundation warned that the United States ran the risk of telling Pakistan that "having security problems in the region is a good way to get paid to alleviate the problem."

The United States should instead signal that "we want to build a positive long-term relationship with Pakistan for its own sake" and only quietly lay out US goals for Islamabad to fight militants, Strmecki said.

Obama has also backed a bill to give duty-free access to US markets for some goods made in the troubled tribal regions of Pakistan.

Stephen P. Cohen, an expert on South Asia at the Brookings Institution, said that the United States has made excessive demands of a weak Pakistani leadership -- from fighting extremists to safeguarding its nuclear program to treating women better and reforming its economy.

"We've asked the Pakistanis to do too much -- there are limits to what a government can do that can barely stay in power," Cohen said.

Obama skips National Anthem at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune
Camp LeJeune, NC -- President Barack Obama did NOT come out on stage for the singing of the National Anthem at his Camp LeJeune speech given at 12:00 Noon today.

The Marine Band played "Ruffles and Flourishes" but Obama did not come out. The Secretary of Defense, Marine Corps Generals and a Navy Admiral came out. The Marine Corps Chaplain came out and said a Prayer.

A lone female sang the National Anthem and after it was sung, the Marine Band again played "Ruffles and Flourishes," a speaker introduced the President and only then did the Band play "Hail to the Chief" and did President Obama come out.

This struck me as very odd. Why did the President not come out for the prayer? Why did the President not come out for the National Anthem?

This was no mistake. This was a slap in the face by the President, to the entire nation and it did not go unnoticed.

I tried to find disputation out there that this wasn't true, and can't. Not even snopes. It was sent to me from family who live there and are tightly connected to the troops. Retired Colonel. I trust the source. That being said, and assuming this is correct, what else is not being reported to us? (Or maybe you all have already known this, and it's old news, and I'm just reeeeeaaaallly slow on the uptake)

I think it begs the question, what kind of President of the United States, which, by the way, is "one nation under God", would be so arrogant as to intentionally bypass the prayer and National Anthem? He is the commander in chief to the troops, yet right on their own home turf displays an utter lack of respect for some core values that they are sacrificing for. Not only am I severely disappointed in President Obama's particular choice on this occasion, but am greatly concerned with the message that he chose to send. In fact, as I have read, and re-read this email, I have been struck with some deep thinking. You're wondering, deep thinking? From little-miss-flippant? Who knew she had it in her? Well, I do. And I am.

Things with our current President and his administration are NOT boding well. What can I do about it? Is there anything I CAN do? Am I stuck just sitting by, stocking up on cash and food and waiting for the Apocalypse while watching my country, it's constitution, values and principles be flung to the wayside? Do I stand idly by while an administration continues to move us from a capitalistic nation (on which we were founded) to one of socialism? Nope. I'm only one voice, but being the mother of boys, I am a LOUD voice, and don't need to stay quiet.

While many express fear and uncertainty with the current economic crisis, unemployment rate and lack of health care, I am expressing concerned interest. I refuse to be scared. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I am not the sharpest tool in shed, the brightest bulb in the four-way or whatever other clever analogy you choose to insert here. But I will say that I won't just follow along with what the government tells me is the best way to do things. God put me here on earth, gave me agency and a brain, and I will use it.

So be forewarned, from time to time, maybe once a week, but not any more frequent than that, I'll be posting a rant or other political discussion. Mostly for my own venting benefit, perhaps to educate others by sharing information, and finally for my posterity sake. This is my on-line journal after all. I will not post something that I don't personally feel is valid or is untrue. Will some things be incorrect? Hopefully never, but know that if something slips through that doesn't pan out as fact, that my intent is not to deceive but is a sincere desire to be as accurate as possible and if proven otherwise, will quickly rescind any inaccurate information. However, the majority of the time, it will be my own feelings on a particular current event.

I'll be fair and warn you at the beginning of the post so if you are completely uninterested, you can just clickety click out, or hit 'mark as read'.

And until I start getting nasty comments, I'll leave them turned on, because I love to know what others think as well. Even if we disagree. Okay, not really, but it sounds good right? Noooooo just kidding, if I didn't want to know what others thought, I would turn off comments right?

So, consider this the first official Red-Faced Rant.......

Most of you know my views, I don't need to expound. I have already vented over his "stimulus plan" but now I just got all fired up again when he visited Camp Lejeune.
The military is VERY important to me. I have several cousins who serve in the National Guard and all have had their turns in either Iraq, or Afghanistan. My BFF cousin's husband (R) is a recently retired Marine Colonel who I love to talk to and hear his take on these situations. I also highly regard his opinion on politics. He and my cousin(his wife - T), are both very educated on the issues so when they speak, I listen.

She posted this great quote that I have now stolen, I mean borrowed, and added here. So eloquently stated:

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out
of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person
must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody
anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When
half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the

T and I started chatting on facebook a couple of days ago. The day Mr. Obama was at Camp LeJeune and laying out his plan for withdrawal. R was last stationed out of Camp Lejeune so they still live in the area. And are still a part of the military family that exists there. I happened to have the news on at the same time and made a comment about how I thought the soldiers in the camera's view looked obviously handpicked. Her response:
"it was a mandatory performance by a company or two...kinda like squads.. if the rest of the world only new.. it truly is a joke! the bigger joke is most of the troops he talks about are only being moved into Afghanistan. All the cold weather gear was shipped out in January. I find it comical an individual makes campaign promises BEFORE speaking to the people in charge and and the experienced and NOW says he will do it their way... uh huh...there goes more promises... the ones that scare me are all his cabinet members who he will do it their way-- yeah...what change? He is too young, unexperienced, and ideological and heaven please help us! honestly, all the marines I know are bored at Iraq. The real marines want to go where there is excitement..sound familiar? However they need to really think hard on Afghanistan. That one will be another vietnam, mark my words!"

But the most telling to me is the picture accompanying the article Why is Mr President looking down? Why is he not actively engaged in that conversation? Why is he not looking the GENERAL in.the.eyes?

I got so fired up, that Splenda had to make his world, I mean C house, famous brownies just to soothe my raging beast.

I feel better. Rant over, back to our regularly scheduled lives. Thanks for listening if you did, and I am off to go get ANOTHER brownie......
