Happy Birthday Tuffy!

It's the big 19!

Okay, so I am a day late, but it's been a little busy - and I did a whole shout out to my baby a few months ago for graduation, but I want to make sure he is a superstar on the ol blog for his BD!

Friday night we did the family dinner - Texas Roadhouse AGAIN!  I know, I know!......our family gets our fav's and then sticks with them!

I just can't him and 'antana to pose for pictures unless I threaten and pull my mean face.....

goofing around with Luka

Trying to get my camera back but Splenda's face is priceless there in the background.  I guess we have no shame in humiliating ourselves and others.

Saturday was his and 'antana's day.  Not only for Tuffy's BD but it was their 1st year anniversary of being a couple.
Wish they would have carried a camera - but they went to the zoo, a corn maze, and then dinner at The Roof.
Holy cow!!

Pretty cute couple eh?

Then Sunday we did the cake and ice cream while Sissy was still here since she finds such delight in helping to blow out the candles

Happy Birthday to my baby!  My youngest is now officially 19.  That can only mean one thing right?
I am wicked old.

Tuffy - you are the best!

Happy Birthday Sissy - Tres Anos

Today was Sissy's BIG day!  Her 3rd Birthday!!  Her Mommy took the day off and spent it spoiling her rotten (as any good mama does)
Her big present:

Then she came to Mimi and Poppa's house for some light birthday fun.  First it was dinner at the Artic Circle where she could play in the germ infested playland.

And then it was home for a simple Oreo cakester with an emergency candle lit.

Happy Birthday my angel!  Mimi loves you so much!  Your a big 3 years old.  You are a happy, fun loving and sweet little girl!  We are so privileged and blessed for you to be a part of our family!!

Next is her BIG party on Saturday!

Happy Birthday Splenda Daddy!

On this date back in 1962 (yep, he's old), I'm sure Splenda's daddy was clapping his hands with glee for the tax break that just occurred. AND for his newest son to add to his posterity.

It's rough having a birthday right between Christmas and New Year's. It's easy to combine presents or to overlook the BD completely, what with all the other celebrating going on.

We've tried to always keep his special day separate. No Christmas wrapping. No combined presents. And definitely a different sort of party.

This year was a little low-key. We, and when I say we I mean he, is busy with final home preparations for Elder L. We are kinda thinking he might need his room scoured, dusted, cleaned out for one last time before he comes home to roost for awhile. Splenda wanted to paint. So, by his own choice, that is what he spent his day doing.

We did sneak out long enough to go to dinner, but again, nothing fancy, we'll do that when he has ALL his sons here.

I asked Splenda if, when he was younger, he ever thought his life would be like it is now. Poor dude didn't have a clue.

He spent his young and teen years playing. Baseball, basketball, riding motorcycles and skiing. I tried to find some pic's when he was young.

One of 7 children, his dad worked two, sometimes three jobs to keep the family going. Mom raised the kids, and did a flower business from her home. He being a middle child, was by all accounts fairly easy. Easy going, peacemaker and more than anything SHY.

One of the first things I learned about Splenda was his shyness. His Mom told me that up until he was about 6 or so, he was fairly outgoing and had lots of friends. He did however, have an ARM! Kid could throw like you wouldn't believe. He hucked a rock at a girl and didn't get invited her to birthday party. That's when his mom noticed the shyness take hold.

Speaking of an arm. Their home was in a newly developed area. He was throwing dirt clods at the house behind theirs when he struck a window and broke it. As punishment, not only did his Mom let the police scare him, she then took him to an empty field and made him throw rocks until his arm ached. She's a clever one that mom of his!

Speaking of shyness. He remembers playing baseball, and with his good arm, and quick feet, he made an excellent centerfieldman. He remembers catching a very important fly ball, throwing it in, and then all he could see was the grass while he heard all the cheers. He was too shy to lift his head.

He made it through school with his small, tight circle of friends, and then worked while trying to decide what he wanted to do when he met me. (and if you laugh at this picture, you will have 7 years of bad luck. For reals)

Life as he knew it was over. A new chapter had begun, which did NOT include shyness. I'll save the other stories for another post, but for now......

Happy Birthday Splenda! You make my world go 'round and I can't think of another person I would rather grow old with!

Happy Birthday to my stilt walking Shark!

Today is a big day. A BIG DAY! It's day that BFF SharkBait (ooh ha ha) turns another year older!

I thought about what I could to honor her in a way befitting her wonderfulness.

Could I list the 35 reasons I love the Tibster?
Could I just gush with love, affection and ooey, gooey love crap?

Niether of things seemed to fit.
Instead I wanted to honor her with a special video. I little video that I like to call "A Shark on Stilts".

You see, Tib is more than just a dear friend. She is my partner in many a crime. My straight man when I have the urge to be funny. My techno wizard with all things gadgetry. Most importantly, she laughs at me. I dig that. If I can't laugh, at myself and have others laugh at and with me, what's the point right?

Just when I think, wow, she's a fun friend. Boy, that girl is funny. Man, I just don't think I can love her anymore. She'll pop off with something that endears her to me even more.

Her latest foray into the lovefest for me?
Thanksgiving. Or Spanksgiving as they like to call it. We headed over for dessert and some fun. Some laughs. Some high hilarity. She.did.not.disappoint.

So without further ado, I present to you, my favorite video of all time, the one that sealed the deal for me, the one that endeared her to my heart just that.much.more.....

"A Shark on Stilts."

Really, she is just so dang cute and funny, I can't help but absolutley LOVE HER GUTS!

Happy Birthday my little angel Shark! I hope it's 35 ways of happiness!

Happy Birthday Splenda Daddy!

It's my favorite man's BD today and here's a shout out to him!
Not saying how old he is, that would be cruel, but let's just say this about when I met him:
His permed mullet and porn star mustache set my heart a twittering!
VanHalen was "our" band.
State street was a river in the summer and he spend the winter pushing stuck cars with is big bad-A Jimmy.
He tolerated my gelly shoes, polka dot sweater and BIG brillo pad (perm and sun-in) hair.
His skin tight rock star jeans could beat a wrangler butt any day.
Wine coolers were the "in" drink of the party scene. (not that we would have known)
And he sat through Flashdance with me multiple times.

True love! Now 24 years later, he STILL gets me all twitter-pated and more importantly is my VERY best friend ever!

Happy Birthday D!
