Avatar - The movie.......My Official review

Okay, you might be thinking, WTC M-Cat? You hate sci-fi! I know, I know. I had already informed Splenda I would NOT be seeing it and proceeded to mock and scoff.

Then I started hearing the buzz from people I knew well. Family, friends, even SHE said she liked it and thought I would too. I started to soften a bit. Maybe I WOULD like it after all. And, as Nicole taught me an important message (remember this?) about mocking things I hadn't really read or seen, I figured I should be fair. I dare say, I even got EXCITED to see it!

Bought tickets. The expensive ones. At the IMAX theater in 3D. The whole family.
Popcorn. Drinks. Blankie. 3D glasses. I.am.set!

So my review?
Visually Stunning. If it doesn't win an Oscar for special effects, then the academy is even more idiotic than I have previously thought. In 3D, on the huge screen, it made for a sensory overload experience. I absolutely understand why it is KILLING the box office.

That being said...........

I thought it was the stupidest movie I have ever seen. I want my 3 hours of life, and my almost hunert bucks after buying the tickets and the treats.

And James Cameron, did you think that we wouldn't catch your left-wing message?

As someone once explained, it's like Dances with Wolves but in the future. I say, at least Dances with Wolves had truth behind it.

This was just dumb. Writing, story line, conflict, dialogue, characters....... dumb.

I'll just go see Sherlock Holmes again( which was muy excellente) and wait anxiously for IronMan 2.

  1. I have no desire to see this movie.
    Job well done.

(However, I didn't want to see it even before your review)

    p.s. you crack me up.

  2. I was on the fence, and now you've decided it for me. While I'm as big a fan of visually satisfying media, if there isn't a good story attached, then no gracias.

I can't wait to see Sherlock Holmes, though!

  3. The sentence structure in the previous comment was a train wreck during a hurricane on top of a nuclear attack.

    But you get the idea.

  5. I have nothing to say about Avatar. I heard it was uber political.

But I will say that Robert Downey Jr. rocks my world.

I thought Sherlock Holmes was brilliant!!

  6. I don't have anything to say about this movie review.

I will say that I lost a follower today.

I can only assume it is some jerk husband that was trash talking his wife at the Chick-fil-A.

  8. Ha ha! I just saw this movie today! The 3D thing made me pretty nauseous and I could have done with like an hour shorter...

That being said, I thought S. H. was subpar. It was like Iron Man solving mysteries...

  9. agreed. 3D IMAX only...go big or go home.

and you totally overlooked the fact that sam worthington came completely out of nowhere...and he's very nice to look at when he's a human...not so much blue.

  10. You are a hard critic --first the Twighlight series now this.
BUT, I won't be going to this show. Not my bag baby.
I don't have a "hunert" bucks to blow.

and wait......I LOVED DANCES WITH WOLVES......surely you are not saying you didn't. (are you) nah, you wouldn't do that.

and if I still "lived in the area" which I ONCE did, I would surely be at your sons homecoming.

  13. I agree with you. And the IMAX is the only way to see it if you're going to see it. And I agree with Stace that Sam is quite the eye candy when he's human.

  14. i just saw this last night in 3-D...the images were AMAZING!!! yes..i too dislike sci-fi...and i went into the movie with low expectations.

....but the message...why is everyone trashing it? Did I not understand the message right? I came away with understanding that we need to take care of our own "Mother-Earth"...sounds like a great message to me.

  15. Don't get out to the movies much, but when I do the movie better be worth the effort. I will make my hubby see this one with the guys. NOT a Sci-Fi fan either!!!Thanks:)

  16. yeah, I caught the underlying left-winger message, but you'd have to be stupid to not realize that was intentional. (Oh wait, we're talking about liberals here!) BUT I did love the human/not so human part of the story, where life, human or otherwise, prevailed over the buck! Too bad the left wingers are hypocrites on THAT subject... please slap me if I'm off-track here -
    :~D

  18. I do love me a good M-Cat review. While I don't always agree (TwiHard here), they are funny and well written. I haven't seen this one but I have heard mixed opinions.

  20. I have no desire to see Avatar- the blue people freak me out in the commercials. But my brothers saw it and their review: "Fern Gully remade for 2010 and with better graphics". Do you remember "Fern Gully"?
