Question of the day....?

I'm about 3 posts behind, and I'm working on them, as well as trying to catch up on my reader, but I have to throw this out there now.......

Is anyone marathon ready and would be interested in taking my spot in the Top of Utah Marathon on 9/19?

Short story.....I am injured (more explanation to come), and cannot run it. No way, no how, not even an attempt can be done.

I understand the course is beautiful and if you are looking for a training marathon for St George, this would be ideal.

Please let me know.....I hate to see the spot wasted, and I'd kind like to recoup at least half my entrance fee back.......

And yes, serious depression setting in. More on that later.

Thankful Thursday

I'm thankful for:

My YW - they always brighten my day. From texting in the middle of the night, to FB notes, to actually paying attention to my lesson. I love them and am privileged to even share a tiny bit of their lives.

That Splenda has agreed to come along as a volunteer this weekend. I know he is concerned about lack of sleep and driving, and prolly a host of other things, cause that is how he rolls, but I appreciate him being willing to come along and help our team.

That I was invited to run with the Legally Dead team. Pretty sure, I will be dead by the time it's over with, but it's so much dang fun, that it's worth every minute.

For my awesome job. Yes, we have our bad days, but really, I have the best boss and co-workers a gal could ask for. I work for a fantastic company with a mission that I whole heartedly agree with.

Good friends. BFF friends. Friends that get me through each day with texting, calls, emails, comments on the blog, seeing at the gym. I feel like that I have a friend no matter where I go each and every day, and I love that! I'm such a social creature that I thrive on being surrounded by not just people, but people I love and I call friend. It matters not that some of my friends are people IRL or only met via the dubya.dubya.dubya. - I love you all the same.

Rawhide chew sticks. Yes, you read that right. It keeps Freakshow busy. And while he does the majority of gnawing on them, he is kind enough to let Jordan have a chew or two every now and again. Keeps him from bugging me so much. And lately, he has been on my very last nerve.

Anything in particular you are thankful for today?

A very C Reunion - kinda

So this Saturday is a BIG family reunion. Splenda's side. They don't do annual reunions, in fact I think the last one they attempted was a couple of years ago. But with the magic of FB - they are all connecting again and a few of the elders took the initiative to organize an event.

The bummer is that Splenda and I will be touring Southern Utah doing this. No Splenda is not running, get serious. I'm running, he's a van driver.
Anyhoo.....so in a small impromptu pre-reunion get together, a few of us met at Splenda's sister's house for a barbeque.

It was fun to meet Aunt J who I haven't seen since we got married. And watching her was like watching Splenda's dad. The similarities were eerie. I missed him. We met some new relatives that I have quickly forgotten names and had a nice quiet visit.

A fun side note, one of the cousins is the founder and CEO of Pixar. It's always fun to hear what he is up to. He's not coming in this weekend for the reunion, but his Dad will be, and he always seem to have an inside scoop, so I'm sorry we'll miss that.

It was fun to see some of the other side of Splenda's family. They are a bit more spread out than his mom's side and not as close, so it was delightful to watch the interactions.

September 1: Joke Insurance

When two mates have a mutual understanding to laugh at each others jokes, no matter how lame or awkward said joke is, therefore lessening the social failure of the bad joke.

I was talking to some girls the other day when I cracked a 'your mother' joke. Luckily, I had joke insurance with Chris so I still ended up getting both their numbers. All Chris got was a weird look for his over-the-top laugh.

I don't want my blog to become a political one. I started it for fun, journal keeping, creative outlet, and on the side, made some amazing friends.

However, times dictate that I have a voice about things that are important. Therefore, as I mentioned once before if I come across something that I feel needs to be shared, I'm gonna be turning political for a few minutes to share it. Also, won't it be interesting to look back on these in a few years?

If you know me, you know I lean towards the conservative side. That being said, my father was a proud democrat until the day he died. Many of that party's positive views were instilled in me, and I like to think I am open minded, fair and try to look at all angles. I do not disregard the good from either "side of the aisle". As I grow older and mature, I find that most of my core beliefs and values tend to lean more to the right. However, I am against any kind of extremist behavior or views. I really believe if my dad saw the Democratic party in it's current state, he would not believe it! He was an attorney and versed in the law. Now, more than ever, I wish he were here to get his views and insights.

Right now, I find myself a little disenchanted with both Republicans and Democrats. I think politicians in general have become, for the most part, quite corrupt. I believe many started in office with good intentions, but when money and power become involved, it becomes hard to stay focused on the will of the people and the true purpose of public service. Right now I find myself in the middle.

Yes, I watch Glenn Beck and others on Fox news. Before you make the assumption (which seems to happen when I mention I watch Beck) that I am now a fanatic, I also watch MSNBC, CNN, and the three major networks. I read blogs from people on the right, I read blogs from people on the left. I concede that I am sometimes not the brightest bulb in the chandelier and can often be an airhead, but I am not stupid, can think for myself, and come to my own educated conclusions. I am also not afraid to ask questions of those that I trust.

I have been following some interesting and yes, quite concerning stories on a cable news program for the past several days. Last night's was a kicker. I can't stay quiet anymore.

Please take the time to watch the video. I realize it's long. You'll need to settle down, get a diet coke, grab a chocolate snack, and pay attention.

After watching it, ask yourself, is this right? Is this what I can live with?
If you think he's wrong, PROVE IT! I beg of you. PROVE. HIM. WRONG.

If you can't, then we need to act friends. We cannot stand idly by and see our country, our principles, our very constitution become a shambles.
