Question of the Day

Dilemma time.  I need some opinions. 

When I first started my blog - I had comment moderation turned on.  That quickly became a pain in the ba-hookie.  An email to tell me there was a comment.  Another email to tell me I had published it.  Too many emails.

I turned it off, and for the next year and half or so, all was well. 

Then the spam started to hit.  Random comments from anonymous sources.  More irritating than anything, and some in languages I couldn't even read.  I ignored it for awhile and then started worrying that someone in some other country was leaving me porn that I couldn't read!

So, I turned on word verification.  Seemed to be working out okay for several months, but since I get distracted by word verification on other blogs, I figured the same was happening on mine.  I took a chance, removed the verification and decided to see what happened.

In the last two weeks or so, I have had more spam commenting than ever before.  Nonsense comments.  Foreign language comments.  Comments with links to who knows where and some with words that I am sure I don't want my mother searching.  I realize you can set your comments to NOT accept anon comments, but then what if someone has something insightful to say, but wants to remain nameless? Grrrrr.....

So now what? 

1.  Ignore the spam comments and hope none are too naughty. 

2.  Go back to word verification and hope that it doesn't discourage someone from leaving a meaningful comment.  (admit it- everyone likes comments)

3.  Go to comment moderation and thus feel like I am participating in some sore of censorship.

What to do,  what to do.......

Weigh in, I'm open to suggestions and thoughts

I need some input.  I think I have made my decision, but I would like a sounding board.

I am an advocate and supporter of the Susan G Komen  for the Cure fundraising group.  I donate often and every year, I participate in the local Race for the Cure.  It is going to happen on Saturday and Splenda and 'dawg are going to join me.

I have always felt strongly about breast cancer research and even more so because of her.

I run for her.  I run for every other woman who has to deal with this ugly disease and I run for myself.  Always hoping to build up some good karma so I might escape it.  It's about saving the ta-ta's.

Yesterday, it was brought to my attention that the Susan G Komen foundation donates money to Planned Parenthood.   We all understand Planned Parenthood right?  We understand their mission and what procedures they do, correct?  While I think they provide valuable services in the form of education and birth control to underprivileged women, I am outraged at the abortion side of it all.

My dilemma.......

I am vehemently opposed to abortion.  Of course there are circumstances that warrant it, however, in general for 99% of the cases, I am adamantly against it.  And ESPECIALLY as a means of birth control which unfortunately are happening more and more and Planned Parenthood is the primary resource for it.

I am struggling supporting a group (Komen) that in turns supports PP. 

But am I too hasty?  Am I "cutting off my nose to spite my face"?  Komen does so many good things that do I over look this?  As a side note, I couldn't find where they ever donated to a UT Planned Parenthood, but they are donating primarily in Texas.

Of course, I will run Saturday, I've already paid my money.  Part of me thinks this is trivial and the greater good lies in supporting Komen.  A small part of me is questioning.

Have you ever had to pee really, really, REALLY bad, and you race to the bathroom, shut the door, whip down your pants, finally get situated and it comes so fast that you pee sideways?

Let's say that hypothetically you worked in the health care industry. Albeit, not in direct patient care, but in the industry.
You are surrounded by very smart, very intelligent, very educated people. You're not one of them, by the way, you're still trying to figure out how you landed here 11 years ago, but whatever, back to the situation at hand.

There are signs posted all over the restroom reminding everyone to wash their hands. There is even a sign with pictures to show one how if one doesn't know. Signs that say PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS. You can't miss them really.

And let's say, again hypothetically speaking, that you and several of your co-workers have witnessed another employee who works on the same floor exit the restroom, after leaving a stall, after obviously doing her potty business, and NOT.WASH.HER.HANDS.

This disgusting event has been witnessed several times. On one occasion, the non-hand-washer used the sink to brush her teeth instead. With her unwashed hands.
Another time, she was observed making coffee. Good thing that you don't drink coffee, because that would just make you throw up. Hypothetically speaking of course.

So my question is trifold:

1. Do you continue to do nothing except gossip about it behind her back. But is it really gossip when you don't even know who she is? You don't know her name or even where on the floor she sits. So that's not really gossip right?

2. Anonymously report her to the employee health nurse so that they will speak to her and let her know that her behavior is not only inappropriate, but downright disgusting and is somehow a violation of some policy we have written somewhere.

or

3. Do you grow a pair and tell her to her face as she walks right the sinks, that she should stop and wash her hands. Do you throw in the word dumbass for good measure?

Discuss....please advise. Because hypothetically speaking, I might have to start from a different office every single day just to avoid the non-hand washer.

Obama - yes or no........????

I'll admit, I'm a bit leery posting this question, but I REALLY do want to know.
I don't want this to turn into a political diatribe. No arguing, name calling or otherwise offensive behavior. This is after all a family blog that is PG....okay...mostly PG13 rated, so let's keep it that way.

That being said, the question is this:

If you voted for Obama (or were planning on it but didn't make it to the polls), are you still happy with your decision? Why or Why not?

Let me CLARIFY......I am NOT a racist. I believe in the freedom to worship whom we will and how we will, or even the right to not worship a diety at all. I try to embrace the good in all religions.

I just wonder............

when THIS happens, will it get media coverage and from what sources?

and, if a different religious group were to attempt the same thing, would they be allowed?

I'm not here to ruffle anyone's feathers on this, just wondering......

I'm about 3 posts behind, and I'm working on them, as well as trying to catch up on my reader, but I have to throw this out there now.......

Is anyone marathon ready and would be interested in taking my spot in the Top of Utah Marathon on 9/19?

Short story.....I am injured (more explanation to come), and cannot run it. No way, no how, not even an attempt can be done.

I understand the course is beautiful and if you are looking for a training marathon for St George, this would be ideal.

Please let me know.....I hate to see the spot wasted, and I'd kind like to recoup at least half my entrance fee back.......

And yes, serious depression setting in. More on that later.
